weekend pics, wintry pleasures

this weekend was for snowy mountains (seventy-seven cm of new snow since last week) and hearty food... wintry pleasures for sure!

it's lovely to be in striking distance of snowy mountains.  actually, we are spoiled by having three mountains nearby (grouse, cypress, and seymour) and whistler is under two hours away.  so often in vancouver, having a snowy day is simply a matter of choice.

stefan prepared a meal that was a little bit italian and a little bit dutch.  first, he cooked up a most wonderful warming, thick and gorgeous minestrone soup.  with some parmesan and a dollop of pesto to boot.  i wish you could have smelled it as it was cooking, you would be craving it over and over again.  for dessert he prepared boterkoek, a simple and buttery cake (don't ask about the ingredients :)

edible canda hosted a canadian-themed winter festival with the olympics playing on a giant screen.  tucked under the granville street bridge, we ate "canadian" foods such as bison chili and pancakes topped with alberta beef brisket and we watched the hockey highlights... the canadian hockey team winning their game against the finnish.  go canada!

of course, there was also homework-ing, soccer, and housework too... it's not all fun and no work in my house.

hope you had a lovely weekend with people you love.
