43 / 52 weeks

kai: kai begged for a good-bye party with his best school friends... so two days ago, afterschool, there was minecraft gaming craze (stefan hooked them up so they could play together), pizza, and cops and robbers in the dark/raining outdoors.  i think kai was on a special kind of high all evening.  he really does have the sweetest friends.

42 / 52 weeks

kai: even though these sneakers fit a bit snug kai doesn't want to part with them just yet, "these are the shoes i wore when i danced with..."  yes, my 11 year old (!) uttered these words.

weekend pics

our second last weekend in vancouver was a pretty mellow one. here's a recap...
  • attending kai's soccer game... his sixth and my first (i'm a slacker soccer mom)
  • a beautiful october afternoon spent by the water eating a most delicious salmon burger and sweet potato fries from the galley with my little guy
  • chasing bunnies at jericho beach
  • impromptu dining with our lovely neighbours
  • purging and donating boxes and boxes of stuff and i'm not even done yet!
  • early morning spin classes; it feels good to be exercising again
  • drinking london fogs and eating sweet treats
  • celebrating a friend's birthday

slowing down

i'm sure you have noticed how little i blog these days. it's actually been a pleasure to step away from the computer and be present with my family, especially my little guy.  our minds are soaking up what is to come... our move to sweden.  i am also hopelessly trying to sort the contents of my house, readying them for the movers, while keeping the disarray to a minimum.  during this transition, i want to keep our house looking like a home as best as i can.

so, although i have posts that i want to write and share, i leave you with this photo i took over the weekend... watching this couple with their dog was a reminder to breathe a bit deeper and soak up the moment.  in the next few weeks you can picture me knee deep in sorting, organizing and purging... preparing for the move.  it will be nice to take time to reevaluate what matters most.

i will continue to blog... just at a slower pace.  you can expect my weekend pics and 52 weeks posts to continue these next few weeks with the hope of a third weekly post too :)

take care.

weekend pics

hey fellow canadians, i hope you had a wonderful long weekend.

we had my lovely sister-in-law melanie and her kiddos over for the weekend - three adults and four kids in a small two bedroom home made for a cozy, messy, fun, lovely weekend.  i thoroughly enjoyed my time with them - except for the yoga class that was actually a boot camp class, not so fun!  over the course of the weekend some sadness seeped in knowing this was the last long weekend we'd be together as a big family.  so, we made the most of it.  we walked along the seawall, we ate delicious meals at terrabreads and again at the union, we visited science world to build a robot who the kids named electra, we strolled granville island, we had a thanksgiving gathering, and we went to 'storybrooke' which is filmed in steveston, a quaint little town.  kai and i are obsessed with storybrooke, do you watch it?

the thanksgiving gathering was bittersweet.  bitter, as the dinner marked the official last gathering at our home in vancouver - the next few weeks will be a whirlwind of sorting and packing.  and sweet, in light of our beautiful friends that attended, dishes cooked with love, and a cozy setting.  while stefan was in the kitchen preparing the huge turkey, a lovely herbed salmon, and delish orange glazed carrots, our guests began to arrive.  rita brought over 'yummy yams' as her three year old calls them.  snehal made a delicious curried vegetable dish with just the right amount of heat (and not a cilantro leaf in sight!), aadishri made my favourite biscotti which i have been dipping in my tea everyday since.  and caroline made a decadent cranberry ice cream pie which had everyone drooling and wanting more.  i love a house filled up with conversation and laughter.  i love to be spoiled with incredible food, drinks (champagne was poured :)), and company.  thanks everyone!
