stockholm weekend pics, vaxholm

we brought the sun back with us from sri lanka but not the warmth. one out of two isn't so bad.

we wanted to take advantage so we rented a car and got out of town.  vaxholm, a little island known as the gateway to the archipelago islands of sweden, was our destination.

it was just lovely.  we popped into shops, found a cute place for coffee/chai, swooned over a giant dreamcatcher that i wanted to bring home with me, walked among the oldest buildings (fishermen lived in these during the 1500s!), wandered charming streets, and played by the water.

it is also home to a huge fortress - a ferry shuttles people back and forth as it sits on its own little islet - but it wasn't open when we were there.  it just means we'll have to return on another sunny but warmer day so we can jump into the lake too.  kai has already declared that we must move to vaxholm immediately.

much to kai's delight, pancakes finally made an appearance in our home.  stefan makes the best. they were delicious, even if we couldn't find 10 grain cereal to mix in.   no maple trees in sweden so we picked up and paid big bucks for canadian maple syrup :-)
