jordgubbar!

swedish strawberries - jordgubbar (YOHRD-goo-burr) - arrived a couple of weeks ago.  they are extra sweet and so flavourful thanks to the long bright days and cool nights.  but i think local strawberries anywhere are wonderful.  imported are never as good so we've stopped trying years ago, only eating strawberries in season.  but this seasonal treat is a short one so we do our best to consume as much as possible.  i prefer them as is but dipped in a bit of sugar is nice too.  my boys prefer them dipped in chocolate :)

swedish strawberries are grown in northern sweden in september but the ones we have been consuming come from the south of sweden. they look lovely, petite in size, deep red, and expensive (you don't want to know) but worth every penny krona.

strawberries are a big part of the swedish summer culture with an annual harvest of around 15 million kilos.  they take centre stage during midsummer celebrations too... i foresee a strawberry cake in my near future (hint hint stefan).
