travelogue: gotland / leva kungslador, lergrav fisk, och prima gard, part 3

gotland sure is magical.  it was fun to find some treasures...

leva kungslador

one afternoon, with our friends, we rented bikes to ride south towards leva kungslador.

leva kungslador is made up of several stone barns - a farm shop, an interior design shop (which i had fun perusing!), and a cafe.  the grounds are lovely too with an apple orchard, greenhouse, and outdoor lounging with poufs and hammocks. the little ones were thought about too with an art space and toys in the courtyard.  what an inspiring environment.

we took the long way back to visby for a view!

prima gård

we are so happy to have found prima gard.  the owners, tired of living in the city, longed for the country life and we are sure glad they went for it.  the beautiful 1600 century farm sells everything from ceramics, fair-trade decor and organic edibles.  in the barn, we sat down to freshly baked bread, homemade jams, and local salamis and cheeses.  delicious!  we were smitten by the barnyard kitty too :)

the young couple think about the environment too.  with the help of his dad they want the farm to be self-sufficient one day.  they have very little parking spaces encouraging visitors to leave the car on the main road and walk in, the waste is composted, and they only use organic ingredients, to name a few things they shared with us.

they have been open for just a year so please, if you are in gotland, visit them.  it's worth your while.

lergrav fisk och cafe

a little fisherman's shack, with the sea on one side and some limestone rocks and sheep on the other.  it serves simple but delicious swedish fare like smoked fish, pickled herring, homemade bread and desserts.  it's such a cozy environment, i was smitten, especially the the red shed for eating or lounging.  one cannot but enjoy this little place.  we sure did!

gotland poppies

riding around the country roads looking for earmarked places, being delightfully surprised at discovering others, getting lost, admiring the poppies growing alongside the road, or stopping for a swim because the ocean is always right there has been the best.

travelogue: another absolute favourite, bungenäs, part 4 tomorrow.
