the cake castle

i visited taxinge slott with a group of lovely expat women from kai's school.  we arrived at the slott to walk around, browse the artisans handmade products and of course eat a pastry.

taxinge slott is often referred to as the cake castle with good reason. there is a room filled with baked goods - cookies, pies, cakes and sweet buns.  it's reported to be the largest cake buffet in northern europe, with everything baked locally.  i have never seen such sweet abundance, morotskaka (carrot cake), toscakaka (almond cake), prinsesstarta (princess cake), and kardemummabulle (cardamom bun) to name a few.

that's renata, with the big beautiful smile.

filming in progress

laurie, also from vancouver (!), put together a sweet little film of the trip.  take a peek if you like.

a little fact... a manor/mansion is forever referred to as a slott (a castle) only if the king spent a night there.  and for clarification, "slott" is pronounced like the word "slot" :-)
