stockholm weekend pics, gamla enskede

living in stockholm for 2 years (!) we are slowly discovering some of the different areas and suburbs. one area i have been curious about is gamla enskede, just a 15 minute tunnelbana ride away.

heading out we didn't realize that saturday was a holiday - all saint's day - so the shops were closed but we still enjoyed walking around the neighbourhood.  and what an idyllic neighborhood with houses from the 1900s, pastel coloured walls, and charming crooked and bent streets.

we had a lovely lunch at the just opened matateljen, a cozy cafe with everything homemade. soda made by a neighbour down the street, home brewed light beer crafted by another neighbour, a gorgeous stew with cabbage and pickled beets, a pear and almond cake that had me wanting seconds.  and, the friendliest service.  they also have a place on svartsjö island which i hope to visit next summer.

i look forward to returning in the spring when everything is in bloom, since it's referred to as the garden city.

gamla enskede is close to nature with skogskyrkogården just down the road - the world heritage woodland cemetery i visited once before (see here).  the cemetery is a beautiful environment for walking along its paths but on this night - all saint's day - with lit candles on every gravestone, torches, and the buzz of people, it was truly spectacular... and very cold.

hope you had a lovely weekend!
