stockholm weekend pics, vinterviken

the weather.  we've had stretches of sunny warm days mixed in with rain, wind and grey skies.  with stefan just back from his work trip and another planned in a just a week, we venture out to spend time together despite the threatening rain.  we don't wait for convenience.

we hop onto our bikes and ride towards one of our favorite parks, vinterviken and its really good cafe winterviken.  i pack a blanket, just in case we are lucky with the weather and can stretch out on the grass.  kai brings his littlest soccer ball from his time in a whitecaps camp as a little boy (we hang onto that ball).  stefan, exhausted from a week of work when life fills full, makes our time together even sweeter.

at winterviken we enjoy a leisurely lunch, good food.  i love photographing the building that was once used as nobel's dynamite factory.  while my boys kick the soccer ball around, making up games, i wander into the allotment gardens, smelling the flowers; it's a visual feast.  the bleeding hearts remind me of my garden in vancouver (it's the one thing i could grow with ease under vancouver's often grey skies), the vegetable patches remind me of my parents and how at 88 years of age, my mama, every summer, puts her garden together filled with tomatoes and basil plants.  i enjoy these memories of past homes.

back with me boys, we play cards as the weather feels cooler and more clouds come in. stefan treats kai to fika - his favourite is the chokladbollar - and one last play with the ball before we hop on our bikes and head home.

we make it home... and the rain arrives shortly after and it will last a few days.
