travelogue: vis, croatia (part 3 of 5)

stinivia
this cove, a pebbled beach produced by a collapsed cave ceiling, has been protected as a croatian natural monument since 1967.  there are only two ways to get here, via boat or burning calories with a treacherous slow trek down to the beach (and then an even slower climb up).  we chose the latter and it was worth it.  what natural beauty awaited us!  the cove is framed by towering cliffs through which is a small opening leads out to the sea.

rukavac
this was one of kai's favourite because of the pier.  he and stefan jumped into the water over and over again :)  i probably should have jumped with them, entry into sea is gradual, not at all steep but i kept a watchful eye out for the sea urchins!  at the little restaurant, offering local seafood specialties and wine, i ate the most delicious marinated anchovies and the wine is just fabulous.

fort george
one evening, we dined on a mountain top... picked up in an army jeep, we went up and up and wow, what a sight.  fort george was once a military post and now serves as a restaurant/bar/gallery.  as usual, the food was delicious but this time overlooking the sea from above.

travelogue: vis, croatia (part 4) next... we'll visit the other side of the island!
