vietnam, part two

more of our experiences continued... here i share some photos of saigon and the mekong delta.

saigon
ho chi min city, otherwise known as saigon, was chaotic, urban, and fast-paced.
we went to see a water puppet show, it was joyful and funny / the puppeteer skills was amazing / the puppets are made of wood and each expresses a certain character
school children on a visit to the museum
the war museum (kai and i did not go in, too graphic)

we found a water park much to kai's delight (can you see that happiness on his face)

mekong delta
our homestay in the mekong delta was fabulous. it offered a peek into the working life of the local people. traveling the the ham luong river, we visited brickworkers (bricks are still made by hand); a family's coconut processing workshop; and a mat weaving house.

we enjoyed relaxing trips along narrow canals, bike riding (which at times were somewhat harrowing), new friends, and delicious homemade food which we helped to prepare.
the eyes painted on the boats is a traditional practice meant to ward off monsters beneath the surface
our homestay
our room is behind the pink curtains
a friend of the homestay family guided us on a bike ride

when a moped passed by at full speed, you hoped to not fall off the path

the matriarch of the family and great cook / she made me by very own veggie dishes

to be continued...
