weekend pics

photos that follow are from saturday. i did not pick up the camera at all on sunday as i was in bed the entire day feeling rather achy, fuzzy, and overwhelmingly sleepy... this is why you are getting the weekend pics late today and the pics are fewer than usual.

saturday was a lovely day that involved a late morning bike ride to the farmer's market with my boys and then an afternoon of sipping chai and shopping on my own.  we also honoured earth day by shutting the lights, kai lit candles, and we played a card game.  stefan cooked us a lovely market meal of turkey sausage (he cooked them up once before and i was hooked; it was the sole reason we went to the market!), potatoes and leeks.  simple but very delicious.

please excuse the blue tint in some of the photos; i am still learning about all the fun functions of our new little camera :)

anthropologie was one of the stores i strolled into; such lovely things and i had a couple in my hand but decided to save my monies for palm springs...

i will be back towards the end of next week with photos from our spring break at home and away... we leave for palm springs!  i am so ready for a family vacation to be lazy, swimming, and gallivanting in the desert together... so excited for tomorrow to get here!

spring cleaning

spring happened yesterday (and vancouver actually welcomed it with sunshine!) and so it's time to lighten up, freshen up, and reorganize my closets, drawers, and jewelry box!  going to palm springs next week is the added boost i need to get going with this spring cleaning of the closets.
exactly how many jeans do i need!?

i look forward to this task each year and have gotten better with the "if you don't wear it for six months, it must go" rule.  letting go is a hard one... i just need to loose five pounds and that cute tunic that i have never worn will fit perfectly i tell myself.  oh, how about the sentimental value of things... i bought that scarf in tahiti during my honeymoon yet i haven't worn it in over a decade!

i do have a system that helps me de-clutter.
* i devote a few hours to the task, getting it done in one go so i don't loose momentum
* i try everything on... everything
i make piles for storing (usually out of season wear), tossing, consigning, donating, tailoring, and keeping
* i answer honestly to these questions, 'does it excite me?' 'does it work with my other pieces?' 'does it make me feel great?'

although it makes me thoroughly happy to cleanse the closets, it is exhausting.  it would be lovely to splurge on a wardrobe stylist/organizer (or maybe this stylist) to come to the house and help me with the task... maybe next year?

from here
de-cluttering brings such satisfaction. well, you know what i will be doing this weekend.  whether or not you will also de-clutter your closet this weekend, make it a lovely one.

pouches

i have an obsession with pouches.  they are so perfect for keeping my things organized, especially when i carry around a bigger purse.  and i cannot do without them when i travel.

a happy room

this space has it all... modern, vintage, moroccan, bright, airy, and it all screams happy.  the rugs, the pouf, the sofa, the fabrics, and that max wanger beach print... love it all.   would you live here?

weekend pics

our mornings were blissfully lazy; lounging in pyjamas until lunch, puttering about the house, reading, wrestling, planting tulips.

our afternoons were meant to shop and spend monies.  we were ready to hand over our cash but after a saturday afternoon of trying to make a purchase we went home empty-handed.  we were sad.  then at the very end of the day on sunday, stefan did it... he bought us the perfect little camera! it has all sorts of cool features that i am excited to play around with (expect a post about this soon!).

stefan and kai also had a date with the symphony; a kid friendly harry potter themed kind of symphony.  the music was familiar, the 'wizard' provided comedy relief, and all kai had to say about it was "it was okay".  the three of us also managed to get a bike ride in too (yes, it was finally sunny enough!) which, i believe, kai enjoyed more.

and the food we consumed was so very good.  tacos from the korean mama cart, fish dishes from the go fish shack, and irish mash with green sausage cooked up by stefan in honour of st. patrick's day.

all in all, a lovely weekend.

signage for the cross... it is a lovely place to get lost in; coveting their jewellery box and their candle holders and their frames and their rugs and their art and their pillows and their lamps and so much more!!!!
