weekend pics, a birthday and a baby shower

two parties in two days.  oh my!

on saturday my boys and i went to southlands farm to help celebrate kara's third birthday.  in the midst of rain and huddled under shelter, i'd say kara had the best birthday party.  there was puddle jumping, chickens to chase, horseshoes to find and chocolate cake to eat.  of course, the birthday girl gets what she wants on her special day which meant being run around, many times, in the arms of stefan who happens to be one of her very favourite people.

on sunday i had a group of wonderful women at the house to help celebrate the lovely patrycja's new baby boy on the way (who will also undoubtedly be gorgeous)! it was such a lovely and fun afternoon.

alanna, my co-host, and i set out fruits and veggies, cheeses and charcuterie platter with locally cured salami, brescola, and procuitto along with condiments like pickles and mustard and olives and an array of crackers and baguette slices.  oh, and there were sweets in the form of macaroons and patrycja's favourite polish treat, chocolate covered marshmallows. alanna baked the yummiest red velvet cupcakes while stefan (yup, i put him to work) made a tiramisu.  i kept the décor simple, nothing that screamed boy.

we played some games.  i set up a matching game. the goal was to match up the guests with their baby photos.  it was so cute to see everyone as a baby/toddler.  patrycja scored 10 for 10!

we also provided the mama-to-be name ideas. dreaming up baby names was a fun way to pass the time.

and then these games that alanna came up with were a lot of fun too.  a scramble word game which was harder than it looked (i.e. push present?).  and a guess the belly size game - a few of us might have guessed patrycja's belly a little too big - it was hard!

the afternoon was relaxed and low-key, as we chatted and hung out.  guests brought pressies - sweet onesies, cosy blankets, fun books, and so much more cuteness was unwrapped.

for the end of the party, alanna put together these favours: chocolate bars custom wrapped up.  such a lovely way to say thank you.

it was such fun hosting.  the experience of watching patrycja surrounded by her favourite people showering her with love, well wishes and motherhood advise reminds me of the female elephant.  did you know?  when a female elephant gives birth, the other female elephants gather in a circle around her to protect her from all sides and take turns trumpeting encouragement.  isn't that cool and amazing?

patrycja, you are a beautiful mama-to-be and both you and steve will be such inspiring parents.  i can't wait to meet that little boy of yours. xoxo
