stockholm weekend pics

since hiking hellasgården back in march i have wanted to return to explore it with my boys.  it lies in the nacka nature reserve south-east of stockholm and has been a popular recreational facility for stockholmers since the 1940s.

there were people jumping into the lake, biking, jogging and like us, walking and picking blueberries under a blue sky (blue skies have not been seen very much this summer).   we spent most of the time in the woods picking and eating blueberries :)  kai, however, was fixated on mastering the rubik's cube instead of helping to pick blueberries.

hellasgården is just 20 minutes away from us.  it has overnight huts to rent, a restaurant (although i don't hear good things about it so we stayed away and opted for hot dogs and ice cream from the cafe).  you can use their bbq too.  in the winter, you can cross country ski and ice skate.  the sauna is open year round, they keep a hole in the lake when it freezes over so you can take a dip.

i'm hoping to spend more time here, it's such a lovely place.

stefan plans to make muffins with them and i plan to sprinkle them into my morning yogurt.

since i was i kid i have loved ice cream sandwiches, yum!
sunday didn't turn out quite the way we planned.  we tossed a batch of muffins in the bin, found out the street food market we wanted to attend was closed only once we got there, a meeting with new friends didn't quite go as planned, and then on our way to a different outdoor market the rain began to fall.  so, we finally called it quits and headed home.  on the way we picked up ingredients to bake a second batch of blueberry muffins using a different recipe.  they, thank goodness, turned out lovely!

hope you had a lovely weekend.  we are away exploring the island of gotland this week but i have completed a few blog posts so do check in when you can.
