travelogue: gotland / fårö, part 5

fårö is a small island north of gotland, a fairy-tale kind of place with about 250 residential homes.  it has impressive raular (limestone formations) to the west and and fine beaches to the east.  the island is flat, windswept and you can't help but think perhaps gnomes live among the trees.  fårö is also where ingmar bergman lived and made his most famous films.

over the centuries, the wind and sea have carved huge rock formations, they're amazing.  as we ventured further north along the western coastline the rocks became even more impressive.  the ones near langhammars are up to 12m high, monoliths!  kai had a fabulous time climbing up and down and was inspired to make an insta-video and stefan was simply in awe of the landscape.  it's crazy to think the raular date back several ice ages.

sitting outside, under the sun, we ate sweet and savoury crepes at a most quirky farm with a nostalgic 1950s vibe and love of elvis.  the creperie tati & kutens was once a gasoline station,  there's a car graveyard, chrome car parts and rusty bikes to prove it.  in the abandoned gas station a bar and club come alive at night.  next door, is the albatross bistro, they have a lovely spot with the entire baltic at their doorstep.

we ended our time on fårö at the sundersand beach, five kilometres long with fine-grain sand.  what a spot!  the water was too cold for me but my boys braved a quick swim.  the sun was lovely.

i can't wait to get back to gotland and fårö!  it was fun to go down memory lane, thanks for tagging along.
