travelogue: cape breton, chéticamp to ingonish (part 4 of 6)

continuing our exploration of the cabot trail, we first pass through the french acadian area with a gorgeous coastline and crafty stores with names like lola's hookers.

in pleasant bay, we stopped at the pumpkin patch for coffee and bars of soap. yes, coffee and soap is the theme in this cute shop. stefan was surprised at just how good the coffee was. we then lunched at the rusty anchor, known for their lobster rolls but the fish cakes were really good too.

on our way to the northern most point of the cabot trail, we stumbled upon this beach, cabot landing beach. we knew we had to stop and take a swim.

from here we continued on to meat cove, a tiny fishing community on the northern tip of cape breton. this road goes through complete wilderness before opening up once again to the st. lawrence bay.

what a view, majestic mountain panorama and what's rumored to be canada's best fish 'n' chips at the local chowder hut. i, however, wanted chowder! which i happily shared with the cutest stray cat but couldn't talk stefan into taking him home with us.

back on the road, we arrived in ingonish, sharing one of the ingonish chalets with the weinsteins. it was fun to finally stay together under one roof.

our time in ingonish was spent brunching at the periwinkle cafe, swimming at black brook covemackerel fishing with ingonish lobster tales and scales, and eating more chowder at neil's harbour.

some things of note, definitely eat at the periwinkle cafe, all their food is locally sourced and it's delicious. when arriving at black brook cove please know that you will be swimming with wild lobsters. yes, you read that correctly, LOBSTERS are in the water with you! needless to say, jade and i had bit of a scare. and finally, eat neil's harbour chowder, it was my favourite and you'll thank me.
