travelogue: cape breton, baddeck (part 5 of 6)

spending a couple of nights in baddeck, at the water's edge inn, was the best decision. two lazy filled days in which stefan was free from driving. woohoo!

baddeck is apparently known for its fine dining and we weren't disappointed. the cable room made you feel like you were in someone's home with a wrap around veranda, a friendly waitress who liked kai's blue streak of hair and delicious food.

the next morning, we visited the alexander graham bell national historic site, which was his summer home. guys, this museum is a must. it's was ridiculous good. i especially loved the information panels about bell's life, his wife and marriage and most interesting was how his interest in teaching the deaf led to the invention of the phone. bell had a big heart and great compassion.

and then, our friends left us (insert teary emoji here). until next time my beautiful weinstein family! they're sad too (thanks for the photo dede).

day two, we spent the morning wandering around the teeny town. souvenir shops, pair of shorts bought, and at the high wheeler cafe our coffee and chai were pretty good. and i couldn't resist a nanaimo bar :)

then a lazy long afternoon, exploring kidston island which is a five minute ferry ride away. the little wooded island has short walking trials with one leading to a lighthouse that continues to guide vessels on the bras d'or lakes.

and, we saw a seal!!!! pretty cool.

my boys enjoyed the swimming platform, diving over and over and over again while i happily floated around.

the best part of day two? fish and chips. i promise, i am not exaggerating when i say captain capers' fish and chips was to die for. the freshest fish, ever, and perfectly battered. it was impossible to eat without moaning and eyes rolled back. it really was that good.
