travelogue: skåne, sweden (part one, malmö)

skåne is the southernmost county of sweden. in the five-plus years that we have been living in sweden, we heard so much about it. in particular, what a great place it is to visit for a summer vacation. so, with our trip to italy cancelled, we took a train westward, then rented a car exploring the coastline, big open pastures, and cozy cafés and restaurants. it was everything we've been told and didn't even think about italy. well, kindof :)

because i am writing this months and months later, i will stick to the highlights, short and sweet. first up is malmö!

place to stay:
* mj's hotel is in a great neighbourhood with noir just down the street for stefan's morning coffee and cute shops for me

places to drink and eat:
* noir, solde kaffebar, or lilla kafferosteriet, any of these three places for fika (coffee and pastry) will do
söderberg och sara for breakfast, their bread looks beautiful!
* julie's vinbar for porketta and champagne
* fatt i hatten for pizza, it's an outdoor restaurant in the park but we had to bail once we were told they sold out of their pizza, but, do try it for us, it's supposed to be really good
* bastard for dinner, i can't recommend it enough! it was really, really, really good
* the malmö saluhall, swedish for foodcourt. here, we shared a poke bowl, ramen noodle bowl from the pink head noodle bar, and tiramisu ice cream
* dolce sicilia for italian ice cream is a must stop too

places to walk:
* the waterfront with views of the turso tower on one end and the öresund bridge, which connects to denmark, on the other end. in between is the kallbadhuset, the cold bathhouse, perfectly situated over the ocean for a quick dip after the sauna

places to explore:
* form design centre, tucked away behind tudor-style houses in a courtyard off lilla torg, the historic market square
* moderna museet to see the hilma af klint exhibition

places to shop:
* marikekko, of course. i bought a box of notecards here but was considering one their colourful serving bowls
* in the davidshall area, there is florista is a pretty space selling flowers; ab småland, a home goods store (and incidentally where our sofa comes from), and liebling for clothing
*near our hotel area, olsson och gerthel for pottery, formargruppen for homewares, and miloii for clothing (loved this shop)
