travelogue: skytteholm hotel in ekerö

a mother's day weekend away, with no teenagers! while i love my weekends away with stefan, this was more special because we spent it with good friends, ximena and petter.

skyttelhom is surrounded by beautiful nature and our hike around the area was lovely. we were provided with two lunch backpacks packed with seat pads, coffee/tea thermos, veggie sandwiches, kanelbullen, and local swedish apples (i often buy the imported ones because i haven't found a swedish apple that i love but these ones were so good). we walked about five hours, taking a break, first for lunch then fika at rosenhills trädgård.

after our long and lovely walk, we threw on our bathrobes and walked to the beach pavilion where we took a hot wood-fired sauna and dipped into the cold lake. i have come to love this swedish medicine, it is good for the mind and body.

then it was dinner. a three course menu of swedish classics. first on the menu was white asparagus with trout and rye bread chips, followed by roasted trout with blue mussel sauce, potatoes, jerusalem artichoke puree and västerbotten cheese. we took our dessert - strawberry sponge cake with fresh blueberries and strawberry colie - outside to enjoy the summer evening by the water and sunset sky.

before bed we had a heated game of jenga. we slept well in our nice rooms and woke up rested to a large breakfast buffet (i'm sure i've mentioned how much i love hotel breakfasts, they make me so happy).

then, lucky us, we spent our second day at rosenhills trädgård (more below).

rosenhills trädgård is a great place to spend an afternoon, away from the city. they serve food based on ingredients they produce and everything is tasty. you can eat in the barn, in the yard, on the veranda, in the greenhouse or under the apple trees in the garden.

the atmosphere is a little hippie and absolutely wonderful. you can't help but relax, especially after a go on their new swing... we enjoyed it :) and don't forget the animals... a roaming peacock, noisy chickens and bunnies too.

we've been so lucky to travel within sweden during these times, it's been a difficult year for too many reasons and allowing ourselves to take breaks from the day-to-day has been the best. i am grateful to stefan who has been so open to whisking away with me.
