travelogue: möja island weekend

on the ferry to moja island...

arriving at our teeny teeny cabin in the woods...

the first thing we did was bike to saltvik, on the westside of the island, where we found a small shallow beach to enjoy for the afternoon. it wasn't easy to find but once we found the BAD sign (meaning 'bath' in english) we parked the bikes and it was a short walk through the woods. after a dip in the water, laying in the sun, a storm appeared so quickly... we got wet!

we ate dinner in the hub of moja, by the berg harbour. värdshus & bageri offers classic swedish food, which we love, a lot! i could eat herring daily :)

in the morning we biked back to the harbour for a cardamom bun kind of breakfast. and then explored the area hoping the hymbygdsmuseum (natural history museum) would be open but due to covid-19, it was closed. nevertheless, the views were lovely and we whiled away some time sitting on the cliff enjoying the view.

biking to löka, one of the cute little communities just north of our cabin, we spotted a couple of ostriches.

continuing north to ramsmora, another little village on the island, we strolled around the grounds of the roland svensson museum which was, expectantly, closed, and took some pictures before making our way the möja natur och kultur stig (nature reserve) for an afternoon dip in the lake.

the möja natur och kultur stig surrounds a lake which we hoped would be warmer than the sea but that wasn't the case. getting used to the cold water temperature, i happily floated about. my boys, on the other hand, didn't last too long :)

this pic makes me laugh out loud, they had such difficulty getting out of the water :)

dinner at wikstroms fisk was so good! i love a good fish soup :)

on the way back to the ferry, we met up with some furry friends :)

while we were meant to be in italy at this time, i can't say i am too sad about it because just a ferry ride away, we are on an idyllic island. would love to spend more time here.
