stockholm weekend pic, yasuragi

i spent an overnight with stefan at yasurgai and it was such a treat. baths and saunas, sushi and champagne.

my favourite is the salt room. bring in a handful of salt and sit on the tiled benches breathing in the eucalyptus scent while you heat up. once nice and sweaty, slather the salt all over and relax. then, you rinse using one of the shower heads provided. love it!

the heated pool was another favourite and the outdoor baths too. the cool breeze was perfect while sitting in the heated bath.

the best part, there is no need to get ready for dinner. just show up in your robe/kimono, order your glass of champagne - it was my birthday after all - and enjoy the evening.

if you get a change to visit for the day or do an overnight you must. you'll thank me for the recommendation. it was pure bliss.

stockholm weekend pics, johan + nyström

no agenda this weekend...

lounge-y mornings in pyjamas.

finding stefan's perfect treasure at johan and nyström's saturday flea market - one of their older coffee cups and saucer. then settling inside with coffee for him, chai glögg for me and cardamom bun for us both.

picking up groceries for a hamburger and fries dinner. the hamburger came from ag kotthandel, a meat boutique. click on the link, it really is set up like a boutique.

laundering whites, ironing a stack of clothing that have patiently been waiting for over a week, organizing the office and hanging up a few more pictures on the wall. feels good to get it done.

strolling to magnus johansson bageri och konditoriour neighbourhood cafe, for afternoon fika.

missing kai, we haven't been a family of three for awhile. we've been a family of two and one due to kai's schoolwork. it leaves him little time for much else. but he did get to the studio for band practice with friends and he studied at home with a friend too. but i miss dragging him out with us.

working on this blog, preparing posts of our spring and summer travels...portugal (cascais, lisbon and algarve) and berlin are done if you'd like to take a peek. now working on sweden, holland and canada.

watching ant-man and the wasp and eating a delish curried lentil soup which was more like a stew. perfect for dipping bread from sébastien på söder! - a new bakery on sodermalm. it's a one year pop-up... hopefully he stays longer, fingers crossed.

city hall

hope you had a relaxing weekend filled with treasure and bakeries too.

stockholm weekend pics, thanksgiving dinner

for this thanksgiving, i found myself dizzied with gratitude.

first, the farmer's market... look at those vegetables! while i bemoan the quality of vegetables in the supermarket the farmer's market vegetables make me hapy :)

second, baking a second dessert just because i thought the first one wouldn't be a 'winner', a sure sign that love is in the air. thank you stefan.

third, making friends is hard, but when you meet good ones, it's so worth it. cassie and despina you are fabulous and i am so lucky to know you.

fourth, cornbread stuffing... take a peek here to know what i am talking about.

fifth, kai happy to hang out with little ones and really enjoy himself warms my heart. harry couldn't get enough of him :)

sixth, magnum-sized champagne (thank you cassie). yes, you read that right; the systembolaget (liquor store) will order it in for you. love champagne!

seventh, leftovers are sometimes even better than the main dish. the turkey curry was delish.

the colour-coordinated beige that is thanksgiving dinner: mashed potatoes, turkey, gravy, cornmeal stuffing

hope you had a lovely weekend... and a happy thanksgiving to my canadian friends.

snapshots of our waterfront neighbourhood

when we bought our apartment we didn't realize we would be living in an eco-neighbourhood.

we simply loved the open layout of the apartment, its proximity to our old hood sodermalm and kai's school, and the buildings location right on the water.

while we don't have water views, coming and going from home feels like we're vacationing somewhere; it's aesthetically lovely and sits next door to a nature reserve and the local ski hill.

it's hard to believe this area was once an industrial wasteland, a polluted and rough area. construction started in the late 1990s with the aim to cut the environmental impact and maintain green habits among the residents...

apartments are made from raw materials to provide maximum insulation during our winters (which made for a very uncomfortable summer this year!), gas and electricity come from renewable sources. we sort every piece of rubbish; public transport includes cycle lanes, wooden boulevards along the water, tram line, buses and a free ferry service (it takes you to sodermalm and djurgården!); and other small things like a diy tool pool (stefan, we still have to find it!).
while i was sadden to leave sodermalm, it's been pretty nice living here. we're definitely enjoying our new neighbourhood.
