rain is coming!

this morning, the weather gave a little hint of what's coming... grey, overcast skies, cool breeze, and wondering if i should bring an umbrella to work with me.  as much as i love the sun and wiggling my toes in open-toed sandals, i also love pulling on my huntress rainboots too.

after many years living in vancouver, i have learned that life doesn't stop because it is raining cats and dogs.  otherwise, we would be inside for the next six months! and that will not do, especially with a boy in the house that needs to move, who is happy to be outdoors.  ever since kai was little we would take him out in the rain and head to the forest for a walk, to jump in the puddles, run around, and enjoy the fresh air. the playground in the snow (when it shows up in the city) is fun too.  this past summer, during toronto' s summer showers, kai happily ran around in the rain much to his nonna's disapproval. with the right clothing and some rain boots any weather is doable.

when you live in a rain forest you learn to love the rain as best you can. without it, we wouldn't have this beautiful scenery surrounding us. vancouver is the most glorious place for outdoor living. the rain also makes for a cozy retreat indoors with homemade soup, a movie and a blanket.

of course i didn't always think so fondly of the rain (and still sometimes I'm a wuss about it). the first fall/winter we moved to vancouver it rained weeks on end for 3 months. not just rain but dark, dreary, grey days. i think i saw the sun perhaps 5 times that season.  i came from toronto where, although cold, the skies were sunny and bright. needless to say, i was not liking vancouver very much!

come on rain, i am ready for you now.  stefan, i would love some of that potato leek soup you make so deliciously. pretty please?

is it raining where you live?  if so, make a point of getting outdoors, get wet, and don't be a wuss!  btw, it's my other brother's birthday today, happy birthday dom (he is a wuss about the rain)!
