weekend pics

stefan was a bit under the weather this weekend so we didn't get up to too much.  kai had his soccer game saturday morning, i did chores about the house, we read, we visited with friends, and attended a foodie event via bicycle (it was too nice out not to ride).  it was a perfect balance of hanging out at home and getting out to do stuff.  it's lovely when it works out that way.

i love that we have made home reading a part of our daily routine.  it's a wonderful way to be together as a family, nice and cozy.

our friends, darrin and alexia, celebrated birthdays but the focus was on their adorable daughter who turned one.

darrin and alexia love chocolate as much as stefan does - we found their stash, it's alot of chocolate!
the vancouver farmers markets event, ripe, celebrates bc farmers and enjoying seasonal food. they are the society that organizes the markets in the city throughout the year - not only do you pick up groceries but the kids can have fun, and there is always some form of entertainment.  such a variety of local food is available this time of year.

a few of our favourite restaurants, campagnolo, rangoli, and meat and bread, served appetizers.  i have to include the menu of the main meal. it was delicious. everything was. i wish you were here to dine with us:

- velvet squash & apple soup with toasty croutons
- caramelized brussel sprouts with gelderman farms' pork crackling
- mixed greens with oil & vinegar dressing
- marinated local tuna with green beans and creamy roasted garlic dressing
- roast broccoli & fingerling potatoes with toasted hazelnuts
- chevre, chard & kale phyllo 'lasagna'

- slow roasted r&b brewery marinated gelderman farms' pork with fall apple & pear compote
the kids corner - kai is figuring out which seed grew the vegetable.
the silent auction - we each bid on an item and were outbid many times so no vase for me, no chopping board for stefan and no glazed pecan nuts for kai

we may not have won any silent auction items but we did get to bring home some lovely flowers!
despite stefan's cold, he managed to cook up a stew from this awesome italian cookbook that was gifted to me.

i hope you had a balanced weekend too!
