advanced style

perhaps i have been looking into the mirror too closely but wow, i am aging!  the proof?  getting my hair coloured to cover the grey is getting more frequent (there are a lot), wrinkles appear overnight, wrinkles already there are getting deeper, freckles are turning into age spots (when did this happen, i'd like to know), and skin seems thinner (especially under the chin).

strange how our appearance changes as time passes.  i feel much younger than my age yet i don't look it.  part of me is thinking yikes! until i came across the blog advanced style; it reassured me that age is what we make of it.

it's inevitable so we may as well embrace it.  right?

the photos of these beautiful older women are taken by seth cohen of advanced style, he roams "the streets of new york looking for the most stylish and creative older folks. respect your elders and let these ladies and gents teach you a thing or two about living life to the fullest. advanced style offers proof from the wise and silver-haired set that personal style advances with age.

for the record, i may have moments of panic about aging (surely a little botox would be ok, i think) but overall i am pretty level headed about it.  i will focus on staying healthy and stylish (and wear cool eye glasses too) instead of old and frumpy.

my happy place

i came across a lovely blog the other day, bliss, and i have spent way too many hours looking through it.  the blogger, mrs. french, has a weekly my happy place column where she posts photos of lovely homes.

i kept going back to this one space; it was one of my favourites.  what do you think?  the layers of kilim rugs and pillows add the perfect pops of colour in an otherwise very white space.  i think i am also drawn to it because of the travel curios on display.  our things on display tell us a story of who we are... and these folks love to travel.  so lovely.

i have kilims on the mind because i finally found the perfect rug for the kitchen from ikea (similar to the photo below but with one big diamond in the centre instead of many smaller ones).  yes, you read that right... a kilim from ikea and yes, i placed it in the kitchen.  i love it!  and i am thinking about this one too.

dinner and a movie

from me to you is a pretty cool photography blog i recently came across.  her dinner and a movie posts are a favourite feature.  blogger jamie takes inspiration for the meals she cooks from the movie she chooses to rent that particular evening.  isn't that clever?  and her photography is pretty awesome.

lemon grilled chicken with dried fruit couscous, homemade pita & hummus and the hurt locker
tacos al carbon, homemade tortillas, fresh roasted salsa and frida
french mussels & amélie
pasta puttanesca and valentino the last emperor
last night i was at the theatre with the lovely patrycja watching the best exotic marigold hotel.  it was a delightful, touching, and funny movie based in india. here is my version of a dinner and a movie.  after checking out the trailer below you will want to watch it and maybe cook yourself an indian meal to go along with it.

first blog crushes

the very first blog that i laid my eyes on was swissmiss, this was just a couple of years ago.  swissmiss is a design blog. the blogger, tina roth eisenberg, writes about a variety of subjects, has an awesome eye for design and some of her posts just make me smile which is enough for me.  do visit her blog here.

then last year i came across birds of a feather, a photography blog which set my mind in motion about doing something with the gazillion photos that i take every year. sarah yates posted a photo a day and i loved her photography.  unfortunately she has ended her blog but she has another one devoted to her wedding photography here.  seeing her photos will get you thinking about renewing your vows or walking down the aisle for the first time, they are fabulous and dreamy!

mom blogs

happy mother's day to all the moms!

i have a little prezzie for you that i am certain you will like, if you don't already know about them.  i am loving a couple of new mom blogs that i discovered, the glow + momfilter, that i wanted to share with you.

the glow gives you "a glimpse into the world of inspiring and fashionable moms.   here you’ll find their styling ideas, go-to gear, multitasking secrets, and enviable decor."

momfilter, by the editors of the cookie magazine (it was a sad day when the magazine ended), helps "you filter through all of the parenting chatter and come away with just the right balance of information and inspiration."

these blogs feature moms that are crazy about their kids yet haven't lost themselves along the way.  it's a fine balance and one that i continue to try to achieve because i think it's super important.  the saying, 'a happy mom makes a happy a family', is very true!  be warned, these moms are also super stylish.
have a lovely day today!
