after days at home not feeling well, it was so great to get out and about. after a breakfast date with stefan at café pascal - where i enjoyed a boiled egg with kalles (a swedish creamed caviar that is a thing here) - i biked to carl eldhs ateljémuseum. it is one of my favouite musuems! on this day, they had an artist showcasing her thin thread mobiles together with the heavy realist sculptures, it was just so beautiful. visual therapy :)

pascal and carl are perfect places to recharge the mind and body.

here's to keeping healthy... where your masks and be mindful to keep physically distant.

stockholm weekend pics

it was a weekend of binge watching how i met your mother with a few movies mixed in, eating kai's favourite comfort foods like gobble pasta (aka tagliatelle with ragu) and chicken noodle soup, lots of napping (kai), catching up on magazines and tending to ironing (me), snuggling on the sofa... 

kai has had a high fever all weekend resulting in us being grounded at home.  poor guy, he is hardly ever sick and when he is, it lasts for about 24 hours and then it's done.  not this time :( 

thankfully, he's much better this monday morning but will take the day off from school and recuperate some more.

it took time and dedication to get my house in order these last couple of weeks.  getting it completed on saturday (just an hour before our guests arrived!) was such a relief.  and the thanks i get for all of my scrubbing and dedication?  i woke up sunday morning sick as a dog and worse today.  i had all sorts of plans now that i had time on my hands again - back to exercising, putting together photo albums, shopping for our home, reading... and i even missed out on visiting with our dear friends who recently had a brand new baby boy.  it's so not fair guys, i am meant to hold babies and coo them and play with their toes!

thankfully the weekend wasn't totally lost thanks to the lovely phillips family.  before any inkling of a cold came on, i devoured the most gorgeous malaysian food stefan prepared - chicken curry with plenty for leftovers and vegetables with peanut sauce.  for dessert?  aadishri's lemon pie with chantilly cream and strawberries.  everything was full of flavour and well worth their efforts in the kitchen.  thanks so much guys, it was the perfect last meal since i now have absolutely no appetite.

note to the phillips - i hope i didn't get any of you sick!  and if i did, i'm so very sorry.

weekend pics, at home

friends, i am not going to lie, the weekend has been mildly frustrating and sucky.  and i know this will pass and all will be okay again.  and i know there is much more to be grateful for but once in awhile it's okay to whine, right?

well,  ready or not, here i go:

• i have vertigo - waking up to a spinning room isn't fun.
• kai's school project is, well, not even started after having a month to complete it in class and it's due on tuesday, of course.  so can you guess what we were up to do this weekend?  not how i intended to spend hours of my time.    
• i forgot my mittens while attending kai's soccer game and it was so very cold standing out there.  if they were playing well it would have been worth it but it wasn't their best game.  am i a horrible mother for admitting this?  i feel like it and probably should delete this point. 
• i ran into an old friend on the soccer field. we cried and hugged and exchanged numbers and it was all so so lovely, you know.  but i worry life (our routines) will take over again and we won't be in touch and that would be very sad.  friendships are awesome.
• finding tufts of jude's hair around the house has me worried about him - his stress has increased tenfold since the scaffolding when up around our home and walls being torn apart.  we've spent monies on this problem before and hoped it would resolve.
• two store clerks wished me happy holidays - it's november?!?!
• mostly i am sad that stefan came home to a whiny wife.  i wouldn't blame him if he wished he was back in stockholm.

on the bright side, i completed a photo project that has been long awaiting my time - selecting, printing, and sorting photos to send to our families.  it felt great to actually get it done, even if it was all i managed this weekend. 

and, we ate for free here... the owner of edible canada, eric pateman, was so gracious as to invite stefan and others to a sit down fall harvest family-style dinner as a thank you for just being a customer.  the food was abundant and amazing; i hope their squid dish makes it to the menu.

rain and sniffles

 

it was a rainy weekend.  intense rain.  and while i have been under the weather with a cold and would have loved nothing more than to stay in bed, drink tea, read, and sleep i had two important events happening that couldn't be missed.  first up was a birthday party for our dear friends' daughter who turned three and then preparing and hosting a baby shower for my lovely friend.  there was not much time to rest but i'm making up for it today... i don't intend to get out of my pyjamas all day!

this weekend was all sorts of goodness with friends and snow and exercise and good food. and monster trucks too!

• five kilometer run
• one adorable toddler who was smitten with kai
• two hot chocolate drinks (one while catching up with friends at chocolate arts (again!) and another one whipped up by stefan using beta 5 chocolate)
• one winter wander at vanier park, visiting the beach, the space centre, and the observatory
• two boys at the monster truck show
• ten gel nails removed... whew!
• five kilometer snowshoe grind hike (it was a hard one but so pretty with the falling snow) while the boys snowboarded and skied
• three take out meals from the dirty apron deli... delish!
• one hour lounging on the sofa with kai until he crashed (a tired boy complaining of a headache) and i put him to bed at 5:30... monday may be a home day
