the photo club, artipelag

tuesday mornings.

a group of expat women come together every tuesday morning to take pictures.  they pick a destination in the city or outside of the city and it can be indoor or outdoor (usually weather dependent).  i have joined them a handful of times and what a lovely group they are! sometimes there are a handful of women and sometimes there are many more of them!

this is the first time i met them, back in december at the gamla stan christmas market.  so friendly (and funny!) and welcoming.

on tuesday we went out to varmdo.  i wrote about my time there with my boys (here and here) and the one place i hoped to visit was the artipelag museum but due to the easter weekend it was closed.  so when the artipelag was recommended as an outing for the photo club i had to join them.

the artipelag didn't disappoint.  firstly, the grounds are located right by the lake with walking paths that make it easy to venture into the forest.  we arrived before it opened to take advantage of the lovely weather and explore the grounds.

where we lunched.

inside, the artipelag is just as gorgeous as its surroundings.  i don't know much about architecture but the building is stunning and nestles perfectly with the forest.  wonderful views can be had from just about anywhere, the restaurant and exhibition space too.

the current exhibition, earth matters, seeks to bring awareness to the relevance of nature for our culture.

"For too long we have ruthlessly consumed our Earth’s assets and drained it of its resources. Forests become furniture, oceans are polluted and minerals are over-mined. For future generations it is crucial to consider a new reflection: a transformation from over-consumption towards sustainable development that is in harmony with nature, with increased respect for our environment and for each other."

"This young century has brought about a moment of reflection and radical change, making up for a century of ecological abuse, consumption, greed and violence. For the first time, a post-fossil society is emerging, using natural ingredients, offering alternatives and giving us hope for the future."

such a powerful message and appropriate for today, earth day!  visit if you can, earth matters closes may 6.

this exhibitor made art just from the plastic trash she found on the beach by her home.
i enjoy my tuesday mornings.

stockholm weekend pics, korv!

the highlight of the weekend for me was the almost six hours i got to spend with ximena, petter and their lovely friends at griffin' steakhouse extraordinaire.  we started the evening at 6:30 with a glass of cava followed by wine tasting.  the sommelier was a funny and passionate guy (i wish i took his pic).  my favourite wine was the domaine zinde-humbrecht riesling although this isn't too surprising for those of you that know me as red is not typically a favorite.

we were then led into the kitchen for sausage making (korv in swedish)!  ximena and stefan immediately paired up to make the super duper foodie team. there was a competitive spirit going on in the kitchen (certain people trying to steal ingredients) but a friendly one.  i was the underdog in the kitchen but with petter's help we made a pretty flavorful duck sausage with apple and lemon as the main ingredients. petter named it lemon demon. and, the chef said that ours needed the least amount of adjustments compared to the others, just sayin'.

we then sat down to a most lovely meal, sampling starters and eating hoards of meat. accompanied with more wine, of course.  i really enjoyed the seafood cocktail with shrimp, crab, and scallop with cucumber, mango, and avocado cream.  and, i did enjoy the few bites of flank steak i tried... my low anemia levels needed it!  but it was the dessert that was truly extraordinaire.  served in a large bowl, family style, we all went at it like animals (no time for a pic).  blueberry sorbet, lemon curd, meringue, vanilla ice cream, almond cakes, fresh blueberries... just divine.

we made our home and slept like babies well into the late morning.

stefan cooked some up tonight and they were delish, especially the lemon demon :)
if you'd like to see an instagram video of the sausage making fun visit @insta_mene!

hope you had a fun weekend too!

friday interiors

this house in london is quite lovely.  only in my dreams could i live in such a grand space, i love the proportions of this home.  and the details are thoughtful: the big gorgeous dining table, the fun smiley face, the patterned tiles in the hallway, and that gorgeous bed.  my favourite room?  the kitchen with its grey and white colour scheme.

i tried to find more images but to no avail.  if you do, please send them my way :)

have a lovely weekend.
