good books to read

highly recommended books that i have recently read:

currently reading:

i am not sure about this one.  i bought it thinking it would be a really good memoir.  however, it isn't really reading like a memoir.  sure she writes a bit about her childhood, growing up as a teenager in a traditional family, about being female in a male dominated profession, and motherhood i am sure she will barely touch that subject.  she divulges very little and i find myself wanting more after each chapter has ended.  here is this powerful woman who was the first female comedic writers on saturday night live, the boss of a successful tv show and an influential female comedian yet the book feels empty.  instead, the book reads like a comedy sketch.  it's funny but i want more than funny.  it's enjoyable but i want to be inspired.  it's concealing and i want self reflection. it isn't satisfying me and i am nearing the end.

i covet...

knots!  i remember looking for a sailor knot alot when shopping, this is many years ago. then i gave up.  i found this image here which jogged my memory.  with my wedding anniversary coming up, i think the search is on again.  our friend, the gorgeous and funny coco, made our wedding invitation using the knot symbol.

pancakes

kai was very proud today.  he made pancakes himself this morning while stefan dictated the recipe to him.  these pancakes are not your typical white, fluffy kind.  i am not a fan of those and so when stefan tried the cooks magazine's recipe, i was hooked.  they are so good there is no need to drench them in maple syrup.  kai, of course, disagrees.

summer loving

i am loving these summer images found from around the web... with vancouver's cold and rainy days, i think we are ready for some warmth.

scratch map

how fun is this scratch map?  you scratch off the places you've been with a penny!  when stefan was in london a few months back, i sent him to pedlars to pick it up for me. i came across the london store from one of the home decor magazines.  browsing their website, the scratch map caught my eye.

well, i finally had it mounted and is now up on the wall.  kai and i spent time scratching away the countries we have all visited, individually or as a family.  when we were all done it appeared we hadn't traveled as much as we thought!  it is a big wide world out there.  kai and i are now fixated on visiting a really big country so that we can scratch it off. we are thinking about travelling to brazil or russia for our next vacation but stefan may have other ideas.

my mother's day

hand-made gift from kai (i loved the wrapping!)

proseco (a favourite drink of mine)

dessert (with pistachio, yum!)

being kai's mom (i love it!)

i am not the best mom, i have made mistakes, and i have cried about them.  i try to be better.  but the one thing i am most proud about in my role as mom so far is having a happy, funny, smart little guy. i was meant to be his mom.  love.
