seafood chowder

last week, stefan and i went to the vancouver aquarium's ocean wise chowder chowdown.  a foodie event where 12 bc chefs compete in creating the most delicious chowder. the chowders were paired with local craft beer, much to stefan's delight!

while judges decide on the winner, the guests decide who gets the people's choice title.  we sampled alot of chowder and were stuffed by the end of the evening.  the winning chowder was a more traditional, creamy one from an okanagan restaurant, local.  i favoured the chowders that were less traditional, more broth-y with asian ingredients that were prepared by hapa izakaya, the noodle box, and vancouver aquarium catering and events.

it was also pretty nice to be at the aquarium after hours.  we made our way from 'station' to 'station' winding our way through the aquarium.  we arrived early and it was quiet, the fish were all ours to observe, and no children running about!  not that there is anything wrong with children running about ;)

it was the perfect date night, not only did we enjoy the aquarium, ate very well, but we also helped to support the vancouver aquarium's conservation program, ocean wise.  a program that educates restaurants and consumers about the importance of sustainable seafood. and all for just $40 per person!
