kai's outdoor camp this week (see yesterday's post) takes place on skeppholmen. a small and lush island in the baltic sea. such a pretty rural setting (there are many) and so close to home! just a ten minute bike ride or five minute ferry to this quaint island.
riding to and from the island has been a lovely way to spend time. the other day, i decided to run to the island, around it and back for my five km run. as i fancy taking pictures, the run wasn't so successfully since i continually stopped to take yet another pic :) . sculptures, old buildings, boats and ships, and lovely views. could you blame me?
once a base for the navy, it has now become a cultural centre, home to several museums... the museum of modern art (see this post), the architectural museum, the east-asian museum, chic hotel skeppsholmen, and af chapman (the youth/family hostel on water that has an actual gangplank that is raised each morning at 2am for curfew).
once the skating pavillon, it is now an events venue for hotel skeppholmen. i love the spires! |
skeppholmen church built in 1823 is now used as an exhibition space |
"paradise" sculptures from 1966. such a colourful group mixed with some iron work. |
the campers tent |
the shamrock ship that kai and the other campers sailed. |
skeppholmbron |
the last time we were on the island it was incredibly cold (see this post). i much prefer strolling it on a sunny day.
