stockholm weekend pics: valborg, the celebration of spring

every year on april 30th, sweden celebrates the arrival of spring with bonfires.  known as valborg, swedes gather around massive bonfires lit at dusk, singing songs, and/or listening to choirs.  it's an amazing sight!

having now experienced three winters, it's easy to understand why, after long months of dark wintry nights, swedes and other communities in northern europe gather to celebrate the end of these dark days and the arrival of long bright spring days.

that rosy red glow was warming but the night air was still chilly.  fingers crossed that spring truly is underway here in the north because we still wake up not knowing if it's going to snow!

i hope you had a lovely weekend!
