the adriatic sea is one of the warmest seas, extremely clean, and crystal clear. vis beaches are tucked into coves or a trek away, sprinkled along the island's southern coast. and there is usually a great place to eat lunch.
stoncica
it was our first swim in vis and it was pretty nice - just look at that acqumarine water! but the food at the beach was crazy good... octupus salad and grilled anchovies. the restarant is no more than a ramshacle pavillion on a secluded beach with tables beneath the pergolas, a wood-fired oven and charcoal grill (the four brothers that own the place own a teeny organic farm).
milna
easiest to access, right off the main road, but still gorgeous. we rented a paddleboard here and played with the kittens :)
roki's
at roki's, the owner showed us the peka, a cast-iron dome placed over coals which he uses to slow-roast meats and vegetables. the peka must be pre-ordered so we didn't have the pleasure of tasting it but he offered us plates of goodness... prsut, cheeses, tuna pate, anchovies, homemade bread, and soup... all wahsed down with a couple of glasses of local wine. we couldn't believe our luck nor the croatian hospitality.
this is a stunning beach with its large, flat pale stones that give the place its name (silvery). we didn't want to leave!
