wild blueberries

blueberries - called blåbär - are abundant in swedish forests. and they are complete;y different than the canadian blueberries... for one, they are small and deep purple all the way through. they are tart and your teeth and tongue are blue and black for a long while.

one of the best things about hiking/walking in the swedish forests is without a doubt the blueberry picking. their low-growing bushes cover entire forest floors during summer.

and, they are best eaten fresh, straight off the bush, but also lovely as jams and jellies or simply sprinkled on top of a bowl of yogurt, on your pancakes (the swedes prefer waffles over pancakes) or like they do at cafe pascal, onto top of ricotta and bread... too good.

wild blueberries on top of ricotta and sliced bread.
if you were to bottle up a swedish summer, it would taste like wild blueberries.
