travelogue: möja island weekend

on the ferry to moja island...

arriving at our teeny teeny cabin in the woods...

the first thing we did was bike to saltvik, on the westside of the island, where we found a small shallow beach to enjoy for the afternoon. it wasn't easy to find but once we found the BAD sign (meaning 'bath' in english) we parked the bikes and it was a short walk through the woods. after a dip in the water, laying in the sun, a storm appeared so quickly... we got wet!

we ate dinner in the hub of moja, by the berg harbour. värdshus & bageri offers classic swedish food, which we love, a lot! i could eat herring daily :)

in the morning we biked back to the harbour for a cardamom bun kind of breakfast. and then explored the area hoping the hymbygdsmuseum (natural history museum) would be open but due to covid-19, it was closed. nevertheless, the views were lovely and we whiled away some time sitting on the cliff enjoying the view.

biking to löka, one of the cute little communities just north of our cabin, we spotted a couple of ostriches.

continuing north to ramsmora, another little village on the island, we strolled around the grounds of the roland svensson museum which was, expectantly, closed, and took some pictures before making our way the möja natur och kultur stig (nature reserve) for an afternoon dip in the lake.

the möja natur och kultur stig surrounds a lake which we hoped would be warmer than the sea but that wasn't the case. getting used to the cold water temperature, i happily floated about. my boys, on the other hand, didn't last too long :)

this pic makes me laugh out loud, they had such difficulty getting out of the water :)

dinner at wikstroms fisk was so good! i love a good fish soup :)

on the way back to the ferry, we met up with some furry friends :)

while we were meant to be in italy at this time, i can't say i am too sad about it because just a ferry ride away, we are on an idyllic island. would love to spend more time here.

the old smokehouse in saltsjö-boo

eating and drinking with a view of the lake makes for a perfect summer afternoon date.

i'd been hearing about this lovely old smokehouse - by the waterfront - from a few different people, and a summer day is a wonderful time to visit to take advantage of their outdoor patio.

after about a 50-minute bike ride, we arrived and immediately realized we had been here a few years earlier very late at night driving back from wherever we'd been (we can't remember!) and didn't really know where we were at the time, only hungry for food.

it's a high-end smokehouse (read, swedish expensive!) with a lovely atmosphere and so glad we visited... again!

stefan had the 'everything' plate (all sorts of smoked meat) and my beer can chicken was eye-rolling good. it was a huge portion and i didn't want to eat the whole thing but it simply could not be helped! our appetizers were delish too, i really do love octopus.

afterward, we hung out enjoying the weather and view before hopping onto our bikes to go back home.

love these summer days with my guy :)

stockholm weekend pics, hammarby sjöstad to nacka to saltsjö-boo

a hop and skip from home in hammarby sjöstad is carnegie bryggeriet. we eat at this brewery often during summer days. convenient, yes, but so much more. friendly staff, delish food that changes with the seasons, and the water view. we always order the pimentos de padrón :)

and then a little further east (well, 25 bus stops or these days, due to covid, a quick uber ride) is where we can find our friends. i love this place... the vibe, the food, the cocktails, the people! and my meat will always be a little too well done, just the way i like it :) thanks petter!

and even further east is saltsjö-boo, the location of the lovely japanese spa, yasuragi. this is my third visit to the spa and this time visiting with sacha and her daughters. we had a lovely sushi lunch and made a bee line to our favourite salt room many times! i even waded into the freezing cold pool, brrrr.

to round out these lovely early days of july, there was this rainbow too :)

hope you had a lovely start to july!
