the photo club, artipelag

tuesday mornings.  

a group of expat women come together every tuesday morning to take pictures.  they pick a destination in the city or outside of the city and it can be indoor or outdoor (usually weather dependent).  i have joined them a handful of times and what a lovely group they are! sometimes there are a handful of women and sometimes there are many more of them!

this is the first time i met them, back in december at the gamla stan christmas market.  so friendly (and funny!) and welcoming.  

on tuesday we went out to varmdo.  i wrote about my time there with my boys (here and here) and the one place i hoped to visit was the artipelag museum but due to the easter weekend it was closed.  so when the artipelag was recommended as an outing for the photo club i had to join them.

the artipelag didn't disappoint.  firstly, the grounds are located right by the lake with walking paths that make it easy to venture into the forest.  we arrived before it opened to take advantage of the lovely weather and explore the grounds.

inside, the artipelag is just as gorgeous as its surroundings.  i don't know much about architecture but the building is stunning and nestles perfectly with the forest.  wonderful views can be had from just about anywhere, the restaurant and exhibition space too.

the current exhibition, earth matters, seeks to bring awareness to the relevance of nature for our culture.

"For too long we have ruthlessly consumed our Earth’s assets and drained it of its resources. Forests become furniture, oceans are polluted and minerals are over-mined. For future generations it is crucial to consider a new reflection: a transformation from over-consumption towards sustainable development that is in harmony with nature, with increased respect for our environment and for each other."
