on our way to katthem - the cat house - to adopt a cat (!), we hopped off the tram to eat at svindersvik bygghuset (see our first visit here). it wasn't too cold and so we enjoyed our meal outdoors, sitting on blankets. kai ate a simple grilled turkey sandwich but that homemade sourdough bread was gorgeous. my cheese pie with salad and caviar was delicious and i could easily have eaten another. but the best was my dessert, a mille feuille kind of dessert - flaky pastry with a light cream and some almond. i may have moaned in delight, it was really good.
after our meal we whiled away some time on the property. meandering among the hollowed apple trees, play fighting (the boys!), and enjoying the surroundings.

once a month, katthem hosts a "cat cafe" - a bake sale and flea market to help raise funds for their cat shelter. many people turn up to visit with the cats or like us, hoping to adopt one. the shelter is an inspiring space, cats have rooms (not cages) to climb, hide, and play with their cat roommates. these cats are very well looked after.
kai enjoyed visiting the cats and i did too. some cats cautious, some terribly shy, some spoken for already and then one just right. fingers crossed we get to bring her home soon. the policy for adopting is a bit more extensive than back home.
not only did we find our cat but we found a new area to explore. we will have to visit this part of nacka in the summer to hike around, grill some sausages and go for a swim.
hope you had a wonderful weekend!
