stockholm weekend pics, södermalm

the part of the city we live is called södermalm, the south island of central stockholm.  it is a charming area filled with small cafes, independent shops and vintage stores.

our sunday started at pom och flora, a sweet little french inspired cafe near the park vitabergsparken.  it was my second time and stefan and kai's first time.  i love the avocado on rye with feta cream the best but the avocado with a poached egg and arugula was pretty good too. kai devoured his sourdough with peanut butter, bananas and poppy seeds.  their earl grey is perfect.  they only have a few items on the menu, but whatever it is be assured it will be delicious.

pom och flora is in a neighbourhood known as sofo (south of folkungagatan) which we enjoy strolling around and popping into a few shops.  a highlight is grandpa, great selection of clothing with lots of swedish brands.  pärlans kolor is a caramel shop, handmade right there with great flavours (peppermint and polka) and interesting ones (salt licorice!) without the preservatives.  christoffers blommor, whether or not you want to buy flowers, is such a pretty little florist shop that you just have to stop by anyway.  they share a space with il caffe which sells fabrique pastries.  so good!  and stefan got lucky at a new shop called farm general store, walking away with new shoes.

stockholm is such a beautiful city.  i love it, especially for the water, nature and of course the cool neighbourhood i live in.  but mostly i love it for the new friendships i have made.  friday night i was out with some lovely expats to say goodbye to jen who has been a wonderful constant since i arrived.  i will miss her.  then on saturday night laurie and her boys - the sweetest family! - came over for dinner which was such fun and wow, did we eat well!

you know, staying on an extra year doesn't seem so bad, i think i can do it even though i miss vancouver big time and all the beautiful people that made living there so special.  tomorrow you can read about my visit home!
