one year stockholm anniversary!

how quickly time goes by!  growing up in toronto, i thought a move across the country to vancouver was a big deal.  newly married, i followed stefan west for a job opportunity and that's where we remained for 18 years.  we created a lovely little life for ourselves rooted in a beautiful neighborhood in an awesome city, having bought a home and where we became parents.  vancouver was good to us.

fast forward to today, here i am with my boys in stockholm of all places (!) tucked away in an apartment on one of its more charming islands surrounded by spirals and steeples, walking on cobblestone streets, frolicking in the numerous parks, trying to make out a language i never thought i'd have a need for, hearing the daily church bells, bundling up tight for cold winters, being swept off my feet at its beauty during the summer, and slowly surrounding ourselves with a new beautiful community of people.

in celebration, i thought i would share a few fun links from around the web about sweden.  happy reading.

we arrived, last year, during stockholm's bleakest month ever with a total of 5 hours of sunshine.  how to love november in sweden, seriously.

stockholm real estate in newspapers is like looking through a home design magazine, swoon-worthy.  see real estate agent fastighetsbyran.

swedish cooking, more than just meatballs.

a silly post on the things scandinavians do that baffle other nations, like eating stuff from a tube which stefan and i find most bizarre!  well, except for creamed smoked roe, that stuff is pretty good when smeared on eggs. really!

sweden is the place to raise your children... so many benefits. see here too.

learning the swedish language... stefan and kai are mastering it, i'm not!

the semla is coming soon... delicious!

i really appreciate how walkable stockholm is and that you almost always have a view of the water, and i love the aesthetics in this city.  i look forward to more exploring and discovering... what riches will we encounter as we enter our second year abroad?

stay tuned :)
