weekend pics

melanie and maya (my sister-in-law and niece) were our highlight this weekend.  i was so thrilled that they came over (from victoria) for the weekend to hang out with us.  i kept it a surprise from kai who stated, 'something fishy is going on around here' when he saw the extra beds made up.  he and maya, who were born in the same year, get along wonderfully.  i could listen to their giggles all day long!

it was a busy weekend but fun nonetheless!   relaxing mornings enjoying leisurely breakfasts, aquarium visit, pastries and coffee, shopping, dancing, crafting, and a lovely autumn walk.   i love that these ordinary activities were enhanced by sharing them with family.

we visited the vancouver aquarium which is located in stanley park and has over 300 species on display.  my favourites were the otters, octopus, and sloth.  we watched a beluga show (in the rain!) and then quickly made our way to the tropics to warm up. there, we found the cutest monkey species (sorry, i forget it's name!) which included a 2 week old baby - just adorable.  we also watched a clip from the planet earth series in 4d, which allows the audience to feel wind, mist, and movement.  it was very cool (but perhaps too much for certain little guy).

any excuse to indulge - too cold outside! - we then headed to thomas haas for warm drinks and pastries.   we shopped for the kiddies before meeting stefan for dinner at campagnolo roma.   stefan missed out on this excursion, he was here.

               kai and maya's new toys!

and of course, the weekend was filled with lots of play and crafts for the kiddos.

               melaine and maya's artistic skills!

dance central on the kinnect is lots of fun (and exercise!).  melanie and maya were the queens of dance.  i, by the way, have absolutely no rhythm.

most importantly we were able to celebrate maya's birthday, who turns eight on the 15th!   maya is a sweet and considerate girl, she is creative (just like her mom!), and quite the fashionista.  happy birthday maya!!!

our time together ended with a lovely walk to get some coffee (not a surprise!) and walk off our pancake and birthday cake breakfast!  we went to 49th parallel and then headed towards kitsilano beach.  our lovely walk ended up to be a power walk by the end of it - sadly, there was a ferry to catch!!!

come back soon!!!
